An unusual color for unusual times

The Pantone Color Institute has announced the color of the year 2023. It is Viva Magenta 18-1750, a color full of energy and vitality, which is supposed to give strength in unusual times.

Every year, the Pantone Institute chooses a color that matches the global situation in all areas of life. Pantone Vice President Laurie Pressman justifies the choice with these words: "It is a color that combines warm and cold shades, past and future, physical and virtual reality."

Viva Magenta color symbolism

Viva Magenta is an expressive, bold and cheerful color, despite the fact that it is a subdued shade of red. According to the Pantone Institute, the characteristics of color are: power, depth, going beyond the framework, spontaneity. The inspiration for choosing this shade was cochineal red, the strongest natural dye in the world. It is obtained from insects that are called cactus maggots.

"Viva Magenta reconnects us with primal matter. Evoking the forces of nature, Viva Magenta energizes our spirit, helping us build our inner strength," adds Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute.
